Fake FLACs, upscaled files: very few files get past it.

A fake FLAC hides on small speakers and shows up on a big rig. Drag files into the Inspector tab, and TaxonomyDJ tells you plainly which are upscaled and which clip.

Plenty of files claim to be FLAC or 320 kbps but were converted from 128 kbps. On small speakers you barely notice. On a club system they sound dull.

FAQ

What does upscaled mean?

The file was converted to a high-quality format (FLAC, WAV, 320 kbps MP3) from a poor source. It is bigger, but the lost highs do not come back.

How can I tell a FLAC is genuine?

Look at the spectrogram: a genuine FLAC usually reaches about 20 kHz. A flat cutoff near 16 kHz almost always means it came from a 128 kbps MP3.

Does the Inspector save anything?

No. It is for looking only. To save, right-click ▸ File details.
