TaxonomyDJ is developed by Ngô Thanh Triều ("we"). TaxonomyDJ runs on your computer: your music is analyzed, labeled, and trained on right on your computer.
What we receive:
- License information: your email address, a device identifier, your computer name, computer model, and operating system, and order details.
- Error reports when the app runs into a problem, to fix bugs. On by default; you can turn them off.
- Usage data as counts, to improve the app. Off by default; sent only if you turn it on.
- Feedback that you choose to send.
What we never receive:
- your music files, filenames, folder paths, tag contents, the label names you create, your analysis results, or your models;
- your card number, PayPal account, or bank login details.
We do not sell data, show ads, or send marketing email.
1. Data that stays on your computer
- Your music files stay in your own folders; TaxonomyDJ does not copy or encrypt them. Labels, analysis results, and models are kept, encrypted, in the
.taxonomydjfolder on your computer. None of this is uploaded. - App settings are kept in a separate file that is NOT encrypted (macOS:
~/.config/TaxonomyDJ/; Windows:%APPDATA%\TaxonomyDJ\). It may contain the music folder paths you chose, and it is not uploaded. - The error log is in the same folder, is encrypted, and may contain file paths. It only leaves your computer if you send it to us yourself.
- Backups and label packs (.tdnhan) are saved where you choose. A label pack contains the label name, the tracks' filenames, titles, and subfolder paths, and their analysis data, but no audio. Think before you share one.
2. Error reports
- When an unexpected error happens, TaxonomyDJ sends a report to Sentry, only to fix bugs.
- A report contains technical details about the error (its type, where it happened in the code, and a few log lines from just before it), the app version, and your Device ID. License errors also include the last 4 characters of your key.
- Before sending, TaxonomyDJ removes every path and filename and masks text in quotation marks, such as label names. Reports never include your computer name.
- To turn them off, uncheck “Send error reports automatically” in Settings ▸ App.
3. Usage data
- Sent only if you turn it on, to PostHog, only to improve the app.
- Only numbers and fixed values, for example "folder scan: 320 new tracks, 45.2 seconds" or "EQ: Vinahouse preset". Nothing is recorded per track. Any text you type is left out.
- Includes your Device ID and your operating system name and version. PostHog is set not to infer your location from your IP address.
- Turn it on or off with “Send usage data to help improve TaxonomyDJ” in Settings ▸ App.
Your Device ID is a random string that TaxonomyDJ creates on first launch. It does not contain your computer name, user name, or any hardware information. You can see it in Settings ▸ App. It is not the same as the license device code in section 4.
4. License and payments
TaxonomyDJ sends the license server:
- when you start the Free plan: the email address you enter, the device identifier, your computer name, computer model, operating system name and version, and the app version. The app sends this ONCE (this step needs internet). The server stores it so we know how many people use the Free plan and on which computers;
- each time you open the app and periodically while you use it, on both the Free and Premium plans: the device identifier and the app version, to verify that this computer may use TaxonomyDJ. This check does not send your email address; your computer name is included only as a hash inside the device identifier. If it cannot be verified for 14 days, or if your computer's clock is wrong, the app locks until you reconnect or correct the clock; your data is kept;
- when you activate a key: your email address, key, device identifier, computer name, and app version. The computer name is shown in the list of computers in Settings ▸ License;
- when you remove a computer from a key: your email address, key, and device identifier;
- when you start a Premium order: the email that receives the key, the plan, the payment method, and the device identifier;
- on each Premium check: your email address, key, device identifier, and the app version.
The device identifier is made of hashes of your computer's hardware and system information (including the computer name). It is used to recognize the same computer and does not contain your email address or account.
When you buy Premium, the server stores the email that receives the key, the plan, the payment method, the amount, the time, and the device identifier. Card and PayPal details are entered directly on Lemon Squeezy's page; bank transfers use a VietQR code from payOS. We receive the order status and, for Lemon Squeezy, the email you entered on their page; card details are not stored. Your name and account number may appear on our bank statement, but the license system does not store them.
The license device code is a short part of the device identifier. It appears in Settings ▸ License and on the app's lock screens, so you can send it to support.
This data is used only to issue licenses, enforce Premium plan limits, prevent fraud, block computers that break the terms of use, require an update when a version is no longer supported, count Free plan users, and help you if you lose your key.
5. Feedback, updates, and IP addresses
- Feedback (Settings ▸ Feedback) sends what you write, the feedback type, your license email (if any), your Device ID, the app and operating system versions, and the device identifier.
- Checking for updates sends no email address or ID of yours.
- Every server TaxonomyDJ connects to can see your IP address. The license server stores IP addresses with request counts to prevent abuse.
6. Who receives data
Only these service providers, and only the data each one needs:
- Supabase: license server (including the list of Free plan users), orders, and feedback.
- Sentry (United States): error reports.
- PostHog (United States): usage data, only if you turn it on.
- Lemon Squeezy: card and PayPal payments.
- payOS and banks: bank transfers in Vietnam.
- Cloudflare and GitHub: website, update information, and installers.
These servers may be located outside Vietnam. We share data with no one else, unless a competent authority requires it by law.
7. Keeping and deleting data
- Data on your computer: kept until you delete it. Uninstalling the app and deleting the
.taxonomydjfolder and the settings folder (macOS:~/.config/TaxonomyDJ/; Windows:%APPDATA%\TaxonomyDJ\) removes everything. - License and order data: kept while the license is in use, and longer if the law requires us to keep records.
- Free plan sign-ups and feedback: kept until you ask us to delete them.
- Request counts per IP address: deleted automatically after about one day.
- Error reports and usage data: kept according to Sentry's and PostHog's retention periods.
- To see or delete your data on our servers, email [email protected] with your Device ID and license email. When we delete it, we keep only a hash of your email address along with the device identifier, to prevent license fraud.
8. Security
- Every connection to our servers uses HTTPS.
- Data in the
.taxonomydjfolder is encrypted; the settings file is not. - If an incident exposes your data, we will tell you.
9. Changes and contact
- When this policy changes, the effective date at the top is updated. The new version can be opened from Help ▸ Privacy policy.
- Questions about this policy: [email protected]. Include your Device ID for faster help.
